EarthGen is wrapping up development on eight new curriculum units designed to bring climate science and sustainability into K–12 classrooms across Washington. Created over the past two years in partnership with educators, staff, expert contractors, and with the support of the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), these units are built to support equitable, standards-aligned learning that reflects the diverse experiences of students and communities.
Each unit is aligned with Washington state science, environmental, and sustainability standards. They are designed to support multilingual learners using the WIDA framework, include translations in Spanish, and incorporate Indigenous science, cultures, and ways of knowing. The materials are also culturally responsive and accessible for a wide range of learners.
Here’s a preview of the new units:
- Monarch Mystery – Kindergarten
- The Story of Land and Water – 2nd Grade
- Zombie Guacamole – 5th Grade
- Breathing Easier – Middle School
- In the Dark – Middle School
- Stormwater Challenge – Middle School
- Agricultural Connections – High School
- SWIMM – High School
As these units move toward classroom implementation, EarthGen is excited for the opportunities they will bring to engage students in meaningful, locally rooted learning about the environment and our changing world. More details on how to access the units will be available soon.
