Health & Environmental Impact: Rethinking School Lunches

In late September, Washington Green Schools, Oregon Green Schools, and Friends of the Earth hosted the first Greening School Food Symposium in the Northwest.  More than 60 attendees, including nutrition services directors, school district leaders, and agency partners convened to learn how to reduce climate impacts and save money, while feeding students healthy fresh and local food.

More than 1 million students attend public schools in Washington state everyday, and they deserve access to healthy meal options. At the same time, we have an opportunity to pair nutritional needs with environmental responsibility. It’s a new frontier – and we’re excited!
