Spotlight: Bringing Together Science, Culture, and Stewardship

EarthGen’s new Salmonids, Watershed, Indigenous Mentoring & Monitoring (SWIMM)  curriculum invites students to explore the deep connections between salmon, healthy ecosystems, and Indigenous ways of being and knowing.

Developed in partnership with the Upper Columbia United Tribes (UCUT), SWIMM blends Western and Indigenous science to show how people and nature depend on each other. Students learn about the salmon life cycle, how human activities affect fish health, and how traditional teachings and current conservation practices can lead to better care for the land and water.

This partnership highlights the importance of Indigenous leadership in climate education and helps students see their own role in protecting local ecosystems.

EarthGen is now seeking youth participants to pilot the SWIMM curriculum this spring. We welcome youth groups and school districts interested in helping bring this work forward.
