North Tapps Middle School fused art with environmental awareness at the annual Junior/Senior High School Art Show. Under the leadership of Mrs. Larkin, the students showcased recycled artwork as a part of the Trash to Treasures collection, where they used repurposed materials to create paintings, bowls, and other outside-the-box installations. The community was moved by this project: 19 kids were awarded ribbons at the Washington State Fair.
For North Tapps Middle School, environmental responsibility is engrained in the culture of the school. Just take the art show’s first place winner, a student that volunteers doing water quality testing for Pierce County Conservation District Stream Team.
This middle school is proof that art can be used as a powerful tool to inform the public on how to be good stewards of our planet.
