BIPOC Voices Asynchronous Course for Eastern Washington Educators

The BIPOC Voices project originated as a collaboration between EarthGen and ESD 112 that is supported by the College Success Foundation. It includes a set of videos featuring Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) professionals working in STEM fields and highlighting their unique career journeys. EarthGen has also developed an activity guide to accompany the videos, which includes suggestions for facilitating reflection, discussion, and hands-on activities related to these videos. Our hope is that these resources cultivate all students’ interest in community-centered STEM-related career pathways and their understanding of how BIPOC individuals and communities have always contributed to collective STEM endeavors.

In this asynchronous professional learning opportunity, educators will deepen their understanding of why centering the experiences of BIPOC communities within STEM learning is critical. They will practice utilizing a set of multimedia resources featuring BIPOC professionals working in science fields. Then, they will share their experiences implementing these resources with the EarthGen team through a survey and optional focus group sessions.

Upon full completion of the course, participants will receive 5 STEM clock hours. Thanks to the College Success Foundation, stipends for $100 will be available for the first 20 educators in ESD 105, 171, 123, and 189 to fully complete the course.
