At EarthGen’s recent teacher trainings, educators in NW and SW Washington deepened their understanding of climate justice. Climate justice recognizes the disproportionate impacts of climate change on low-income communities and communities of color around the world, the people and places least responsible for the problem.* Guided by EarthGen, teachers developed models to infuse climate justice into their existing science lessons and workshopped their updated units together. One teacher shared that “climate justice is 100% relevant to all students.”

Reflecting attendees’ commitment to sharing this information with their students, another teacher stated, “I’m eager to update my curriculum by integrating climate justice into science lessons, fostering students’ empathy and awareness of global issues, while instilling in them the belief that they can actively shape the future through problem-solving.” EarthGen’s training served as a catalyst for educators to continue learning about climate justice and fostered a shared dedication to instill environmental consciousness in students, equipping them to address the challenges of climate change.
