Green Teams in Action: Jackson High School

How do you get 2,000 students to make smarter transportation choices? This was the ‘big picture’ question that the kids at Jackson High School in Everett tackled this year.

After witnessing the amount of idling that was impacting their air quality on campus everyday, the Environmental Systems Design class decided to take action. The students created a poster, complete with a QR code, that would lead viewers to the reasons students, staff, and parents should work together to reduce emissions.

The project leaders focused on the cost savings that people could enjoy by participating in the “no idling” program, and the angle paid off: Now, 10% fewer people are idling each day, and more students are options to bus, walk, or bike.
