Heritage High School Visualizes Single-Use Bottle Waste

Note: Posts before 2020 reflect EarthGen’s former name, Washington Green Schools.

Heritage High School’s Environmental Club collected single-use bottles across campus to create an educated estimate of how many they toss on campus each year. The result? Upwards of 60,000. The team wanted the school community to be able to visualize what this amount of waste means in a real, tangible way – so they brought the waste back to the gym.

When the school community sees how much waste they’re collectively creating, they band together to reduce their impact.

Now, the student body is working to give every member of Heritage High School a reusable water bottle to help boot their waste problem. In the process, they’re exemplifying the power of perception in creating change.
